  7.      Who would ever believe that 20 rock stars could style Cole
  8. Porter's music to their tastes? Or that anyone would want to
  9. hear the result? But just that will be done in a 90-minute
  10. ABC-TV special and album featuring Porter's music and called Red
  11. Hot + Blue. The stars, including Iggy Pop and Deborah Harry,
  12. above, plus U2 and David Byrne, do their unusual bit as part of
  13. the Dec. 1 World AIDS Day, with royalties earmarked for AIDS
  14. charities worldwide. Porter's tunes were chosen, says
  15. entertainment lawyer John Carlin, who spearheaded the project,
  16. because "his lyrics resonate with many shades of meaning. He was
  17. a homosexual on the fringes of society. He was an outsider
  18. looking in." Pop and Harry take those lyrics and rock it up
  19. royally in a duet of Well, Did You Evah! while U2 gives its own
  20. soulful rendition of Night and Day. A song by Neneh Cherry even
  21. gets a safe-sex rap plugged between the notes. Fun stuff, but
  22. will Porter be tapping his toes or spinning in his grave?
